Last week approximately 70,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine expired, distributed to the four urban health departments and the metropolitan health department, in addition to others that they had the conditions of transport and cold chain. This figure is handled unofficially, which is why the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) requested an official report from the Expanded Program on Immunization (MYP) to know the number of expired vaccines and be able to manage the return to the Ministry of Health.
Jorge Quiróz, director of Urban Networks of the Headquarters, informed that these vaccines expired on March 15 and that they were part of a batch of 500,000 doses delivered in January by the Ministry of Health to the department of Santa Cruz.
“We have applied 80 percent; however, unofficially we know that there are 70,000 doses in the PAI warehouses, we are waiting for the different health managements to send their remnants to issue an official report, ”explained the authority.
On the other hand, from Headquarters they indicated that there is another batch of vaccines that expires at the beginning of April and another, with fewer doses, at the end of April. They hope that all of these vaccines can be used. They ask the population to go to the vaccination posts in case they have not received vaccines against Covid-19.
Regarding the low number of infections registered last week, the Headquarters ask the population to be vaccinated to control the Covid-19 pandemic. Epidemiological week number 11 closed with 979 positive cases, that is, 421 less than the previous one, which means that the curve continues with a sustained and controlled decrease in cases.
With the start of face-to-face classes, a schedule has been developed to reach all educational units to expand vaccination coverage of the student population. To date there is only 30 percent complete coverage in children between 5 and 11 years old; while the age of 12 and 17 years has reached 41 percent.
