They ask the Electoral Court to intervene in internal elections of Cambio Democrático in the face of alleged arbitrariness

The Representatives of Townships, Mayors and Deputies elected in 2019, nominated by Cambio Democrático, showed their discontent and disagreement with the decisions without consultation made by the president of the Rómulo Roux party in conjunction with other Directors.

Through a statement they expressed to the country and the Electoral Tribunal that Roux imposed, before the Board of Directors, a Regulation and an Election Calendar setting March 19, 2023 as the date, a date that in his opinion “widely exceeds the limit of time in which they must be renewed according to the Electoral Court, the conventional ones of Democratic Change».

They highlighted that the current conventional period expires in January 2023.

“Since April 8, 2022, by means of note 123 of the Electoral Organization Directorate, the Electoral Tribunal requested Rómulo Roux to send a draft calendar so that Cambio Democrático could carry out the elections in the corresponding time”, they told the It should be noted that Roux convened a national directory last Saturday, October 15, to ratify the regulations and calendar established by the National Elections Commission, once again violating the laws and the deadlines established by the Electoral Tribunal.

The mayors, deputies and representatives said that all this is found in note 197 of May 25, 2022 and subsequent agreement room 37-1 of July 7, 2022, where it is stated that the new authorities must be firm in January of 2023.

“The performance of Rómulo Roux and part of his Board of Directors shows, once again, that his interests are above the interests of the bases, by trying to remain president beyond what corresponds to him,” they highlighted.

They added that Roux commits arbitrariness by postulating conventions by hand and does not respect the proven leadership and the genuine sympathy of the bases.

They warned that the actions of Roux and the Board of Directors undermine their electoral chances, while they accused Roux of using the party for personal revenge and of undermining the internal democracy of the collective.

“It is our legitimate option to ask the Electoral Tribunal for its intervention so that it enforces the Electoral Law and the decisions of its authorities; regarding the internal elections of the political parties”, they pointed out.
