The residents of Villa Crespo also denounced the situation of people with mobility difficulties who are “imprisoned” in their own homes.

Self-convened residents of Villa Crespo demanded a working group with the Buenos Aires government to stop the “annoying noises, concentration of people and street closures”, among other problems that they suffered this year, due to the massive events that took place “every day of the week” in the Movistar Arena mega-stadiumlocated in that neighborhood.

In a statement, residents listed “the disorders” who live “seven days a week”among which they mentioned the noise and concentrations of people “from so early on that they make it difficult to pass on the sidewalks, mainly for those who circulate with some reduced mobility or those who go with children or strollers.”

They also denounced “permanent light pollution” by the megastadium posters, the street cuts “That prevents the transit of those who live in the area and generates traffic chaos” and the saturation of parking lots and cars “parked on the sidewalks.”

The property adjoining the stadium Atlanta Don Leon Kolbowski became Movistar Arena in 2017 when the Buenos Aires Legislature approved the modification of the project that authorized the construction of a sports center at a private “microstadium” exempt from paying ABL for 40 years“while the rest of the inhabitants of CABA pay this tax that increases monthly,” they added.

“We must not forget that this mega-stadium of more than 25,000 square meters, with capacity for 16,000 people – Luna Park twice -, was built on public land ceded by the Buenos Aires Legislature to Club Atlanta, which, in turn, ceded it on loan to the newspaper La Nación”, they pointed out.

They also denounced “the situation of residents with mobility difficulties” that they remain “prisoners” in their own homes, the impossibility of “organizing meetings in our homes because we cannot get to our homes” and the sidewalks that “end up being garbage dumps or sanitary many times.”

“The vibrations that occur with each recital that not only prevent rest and/or any activity (cause nausea and dizziness in many people) but will end up severely affecting the structure of the buildings,” they added.

In that framework, They demanded a working table with the Buenos Aires government and make progress in “a law to change the use of the megastadium for sporting events”as they proposed in a bill presented three years ago that “was never dealt with in the Legislature,” they said.

In addition, they asked “That the exemption from paying the ABL tax be withdrawn from the stadium.”

“We are not going to give up until this monster created by the newspaper La Nación and the multinational AEG, in agreement with the directors of Club Atlanta and the complicity of the City Government, stops ruining the lives of thousands of people” they concluded.
