(EFE).- The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) in Miami and several dissidents rejected this Friday that the Government of Havana be removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. This would be an “error” if it were to materialize because, according to the complaint, the Island continues to support these activities.
The coordinator of the ARC, Orlando Gutiérrez Boronat, said at a press conference that “it would be unfortunate” if the Administration of US President Joe Biden made the decision to remove Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism prepared by the State Department.
Last November, various countries and international organizations described the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism as unfair, in addition to denouncing in the United Nations Assembly the damage that this causes to their citizens.
The Island had left that list during the rapprochement stage promoted by the then US ruler Barack Obama (2009-2017), but was included again in May 2020 by the Administration of then President Donald Trump (2017-2021).
“The Government of Cuba supports Russia and the Daniel Ortega regime in Nicaragua,” said Gutiérrez Boronat, for whom if Biden finally made that decision, it would be a “regrettable” measure that, as he assured, “would open the doors to the Cuban regime “.
Sylvia Iriondo, president of the organization Mothers and Women against Repression (MAR), said for her part that after 64 years “the criminal nature of the Cuban regime continues.”
This Friday’s press conference, held in Miami, was attended by Santiago Peña, candidate for president of the Republic of Paraguay for the Honor Colorado movement of the Colorado Party, who told EFE that “the fight for freedom has no borders”, which is why he personally supported this act of the ARC.
Kevin Cabrera, commissioner of Miami-Dade County, pointed out that the Cuban government sponsors terrorism, which is why he expressed his opposition to the possibility that the Government of Havana be removed from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
Sylvia Iriondo, president of the organization Mothers and Women Against Repression (MAR), for her part, said that after 64 years “the criminal nature of the Cuban regime continues,” for which she expressed her rejection of the Cuban government being withdrawn from the ready.
Muñeca Fuentes, president of the Nicaraguan American Republican Alliance (NARA), said that terrorism came to her country, Nicaragua, from people trained in Cuba.
“It is an insult that Cuba is removed from the list and that it is allowed to continue exporting terrorism,” Muñeca stressed.
Colombian Fabio Andrade, president of the Americas Community Center organization in South Florida, whose main objective is to design programs and services that support the efforts of immigrants to adapt to life in the United States, expressed his solidarity with the Cuban people and asked Biden not to remove Cuba from the list.
Representatives from the United States recently traveled to Havana to continue high-level meetings with Cuban officials, which various media outlets indicate may mean a first step for the Biden Administration to remove Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
