They ask for help for activist Pedro Quiala, whose health condition worsens

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- People close to the activist and collaborator of CubaNet Pedro Quiala They asked for help to be able to obtain and send to Cuba the medicines and supplies that could save the life of the young man, who suffers from cystic fibrosis of the lungs and pancreas.

In conversation with CubaNetIvette explained they managed get hoses for the oxygen machine on which Quiala depends and some antibiotics, but they need aerosols to decongest the lungs because the young man currently has lung bacteria that worsens his health.

According to Ivette, the medicines and supplies will be sent directly to Quiala in Cuba, and she appealed to the solidarity of Cuban emigrants to collect other antibiotics such as Levofloxacin and aerosols.

Cystic fibrosis was detected in Quiala when he was just 11 years old. Since then, he has had to live with the disease that causes difficult episodes. “By not having proper medical treatment and proper nutrition, I periodically decompensate,” he told CubaNet.

Currently, he has bacteria (pseudomonas of the mucoid variety) colonized in both lungs. “It infects my lungs with secretions, blocking my airways and filling my lungs with phlegm, which is a danger to my life.”

Pedro Quiala Carmenate is from Holguin, specifically from the Mayarí municipality, although he lives in Havana Old since 2012, in a building in danger of collapsing. His illness is aggravated by the lack of suitable medications to treat it.

Although he has a degree in basic electronics, his health does not allow him to work due to the infections he suffers regularly.

Their life passes between bronchodilators (medicines that relax the muscles that surround the airways and make breathing easier) and strong antibiotics such as cephalosporins: ceftazidime, cefepime and ceftriaxone.
