The president of the Energy and Petroleum Commission of the National Assembly, Ángel Rodríguez, asked the Government of Trinidad and Tobago “not to let the Petrocaribe block fade away.”
The deputy’s request was made during a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Industry of the island country, Stuart Richard Young, along with a broad delegation from the industry.
In this sense, the parliamentarian recalled that both countries maintain energy agreements on hydrocarbons and joint projects in strategic areas, but considers it necessary to join efforts to maintain the relevance of Petrocaribe in Central America and the Caribbean.
Petrocaribe is an energy agreement between Venezuela and the countries of the region, whose main purpose is to provide member states with fuel at competitive prices and to allow them greater access to energy.
Therefore, the legislator asked this delegation to contribute efforts in what also refers to the complementarity of both nations.
The Petrocaribe initiative was created in 2005 by then President Hugo Chávez, within the framework of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (Alba), which benefited Cuba, Haiti, Belize, Jamaica and Suriname, among others.
