They ask ANDE not to grant energy to hydrogen plants

Activists belonging to the Itaipu 2023 National Cause Campaign sent a note to Félix Sosa, president of the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), in order to request a hearing to expose a concern about the energy concession that the public company will make to misnamed “green” hydrogen plants and crypto mining.

“We are pleased to address you in order to convey our concern regarding the tender for the 1,000 MW block that ANDE would carry out, without intending to exercise hydroelectric sovereignty, according to published information, and which implies the eventual delivery of our valuable hydroelectric energy to electro-intensive activities, for hydrogen plants misnamed ‘green’ and crypto mining”, reads part of the text.

Energy experts such as Mercedes Canese and Heriberto Bobadilla warn that this fact would advance a foreseeable need to import electricity at a very high price, in a relatively short term, given the absence of electricity generation projects in execution to date.

“Our concern grows, if we take into account the recently signed contract between ANDE and ATOME ENERGY, at a clearly subsidized rate. In this regard, we want to send you our points of view, which we briefly set out in the attached document, and, at the same time, we request that you grant us a hearing, in order to be able to explain in more detail the orientation that the aforementioned tender proposal should have, way that may be convenient to the interests of the State and the Paraguayan people”, concludes the request.
