Apure state police officials detained a 16-year-old teenager in flagrante delicto, accused of causing the death of a sexagenarian.
The information was disseminated by the Secretary of Citizen Security of Apure, Ramón Cabeza Ibarra, who detailed, through his Telegram account, that the offense occurred last Tuesday, at 3 pm, in the vicinity of the Miguel Escalante high school, 1° de Mayo Avenue in San Fernando de Apure.
The report states that at the aforementioned time Euclides Rafael Bolívar was crossing the arterial road, when he was run over by the 16-year-old motorcyclist.
Police and Risk Management officials appeared at the scene of the event and took the sixty-year-old to the Pablo Acosta Ortiz Hospital located in the Apureña capital, where he later died.
Parallel to this, the Poliapure agents arrested the minor driver of the motorcycle for allegedly being involved in crimes against people, the report says.
“From this situation with a regrettable outcome, in which a citizen loses his life again due to the irresponsible behavior of some motorcycle drivers, the call is reiterated to unions, associations and the community in general, to join the joint effort to raise awareness, abide by the rules of land traffic and avoid adding the regrettable statistics in which citizens are involved as offenders,” says the official’s statement.
In this context, Cabeza Ibarra added that “from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the entire team of the Security Cabinet, efforts are deployed and redoubled to stop the escalation of road events and control the outrageous behavior of some motorcycle drivers, who very irresponsibly use this type of vehicle.”
