The Bolivarian National Police Corps (Cpnb) carried out the arrest of a citizen of foreign nationality linked to the Organized Crime Special Group (Gedo) calling itself El Gordo, for the alleged commission of the crime of illicit possession of a weapon of war and ammunition in the east of the country.
Details of this procedure are outlined in a statement posted on the Polinacional Instagram account.
The technical procedure was carried out on the main street of the La Ceiba sector, Irapa parish of the Mariño municipality, Sucre state. During the intervention, the police officers managed to seize a black AK-47 type assault rifle, which had its serial numbers devastated to evade registration control. Likewise, 45 7.62×39 millimeter caliber ammunition and a magazine corresponding to high-caliber weapons were collected.
“This institutional action reaffirms the operational and intelligence capacity of the security body in the dismantling of criminal structures that seek to violate territorial peace,” says the Polinacional report.
The person arrested, along with the war material, was placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office for the start of the judicial process, “guaranteeing the defense of sovereignty and the comprehensive protection of the people of Sucre against destabilizing factors,” the PNB stated.
