One of the detainees is Brigadier General (Bolivarian National Guard), Rafael Simón García Fernández, who served as head of Zone Command No. 63 of the aforementioned military component corresponding to the state of Amazonas.
The second commander, Colonel (GNB) Euclides Rafael Gómez Salazar, who in turn was the chief of the General Staff, was also arrested.
The list of detainees continues with Lieutenant Colonel (GNB) Darwin Rigoberto, commander of Air Support No. 63 (Amazonas), as well as Major José Gregorio Santana Olivo, head of the Maintenance and Internal Order Division of the aforementioned zone command.
The other detainees are: First Lieutenant Luis Gerardo Pérez Mendoza (commander of the Rural Command Detachment 63-2); first lieutenant Jhon Kenner Buitrago Jaimes (commander of the Urban Security Detachment 63) as well as sergeants Ángel Alexis Barreto Pérez, Keibi Adrián Verenzuela Sandoval, Elvis Josué Pérez Salas and Antonio José Gutiérrez.
The arrest warrants were issued by the Eighth Military Court of Control of Amazonas led by Captain Jorge Daniel Cedeño. The detainees are allegedly involved in the crimes of outrage against the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb), against the security of the Fanb, aggravated disobedience, abuse of authority and treason to the country.
The events would have occurred at the Cerro Carlos Delgado Chalbaud Border Protection Base, where aircraft from Brazil were allegedly allowed to enter, the source explained.
