Miami, United States. – Daniel Morejón García, a Cuban citizen accused of having actively participated in the repression of the protests of July 11, 2021 (11J) on the island, was arrested last Friday in Miami by the United States immigration authorities.

This was reported on Monday by the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE, for its acronym in English), which made the arrest with the collaboration of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Customs Office and Border Protection (CBP).

According to an ICE statement cited by the local WPLG 10Morejón García, 57, was arrested at his home after an investigation conducted by the National Security Investigation Division (HSI). The case focuses on alleged fraudulent statements made by Morejón García in its process of entry to the country.

“During the investigation, the agents of the order obtained official documents from the Cuban government and information from credible sources indicating that Morejón García did not reveal their affiliations,” ICE said. “It allegedly omitted to be a member of the Communist Party of Cuba and agent of the Ministry of Interior of Cuba in their immigration applications.”

According to the Federal Agency, Morejón García would also have been president of the National Defense Council in the Artemisa region and a member of the Fast Response Brigades, groups of civilians organized by the regime to intervene before protests or social disturbances. “The authorities claim that Morejón García was activated by the Cuban government during the protests of July 11, 2021 throughout the island. In that role, there is evidence that he assaulted protesters as part of their functions,” said the statement.

Morejón García remains in Custody of ICE while the deportation process is carried out. The agency called to the public to report similar cases: “ICE urges public members who have information on alleged human rights violators who travel or enter the United States to call their direct line or complete the online form. Calls can be anonymous.”

Daniel Morejón García’s profile also appears in The public database of the project “Cuban repressors”where crimes against humanity are attributed as imprisonment and political persecution, as well as beatings, physical abuse and participation in repression.

According to that source, on July 11, 2021 Morejón descended from his motorcycle and hit Armando Martínez Luis, who asked for freedom on public roads. As a result, Martínez Luis was sentenced to eight years in prison. Two other people who tried to defend him, Rolando González Arévalo and Richael Cantún Morales, were also arrested and sentenced to six and seven years, respectively. The trial took place on October 19, 2021, and currently comply with a sentence in Guanajay prison.

The same site identifies Morejón García as former director of the feed factory of Las Cañas, militant of the PCC and alleged collaborator or officer of state security. It is also linked to universal warehouses, an entity belonging to the military conglomerate Gaesawhich controls the labor access of Cubans to foreign companies in the special area of ​​Mariel Development.

According to reports, Morejón resided in Miami at his daughter’s house, Dhayma Morejón, until the moment of his arrest.
