The Investigative Police (PDI) arrested a man on Monday accused of harassing the mayor of Quinta Normal, Karina Delfino. The mayor had denounced that the subject called her up to 20 times a day -including at dawn-, and also sent her emails and messages via Whatsapp. She even came to the outskirts of Delfino’s home.
The communal chief denounced the man in the Central North Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Ministry ordered that the PDI carry out the investigations of the case. The investigation, led by the Metropolitan Cybercrime Brigade, allowed the subject to be identified and his location to be found.
“Yesterday (Monday) the arrest of this subject took place, corresponding to a 42-year-old man, with no known trade or activity, with a police record for the crime of theft and illicit drug trafficking,” said the sub-prefect Luis Orellanahead of the Metropolitan Cybercrime Brigade.
“In addition, he maintained a current order of robbery with intimidation,” added Subprefect Orellana.
The PDI also seized the defendant’s cell phone, with which he was harassing Mayor Delfino.
According to the mayor, she met the man in the middle of the campaign period for the municipal elections.
“He arrived because they published in a group of neighbors that if they needed help they should contact us internally, so we divided up the people and it was his turn. I helped him and everything was fine, but from then on he kept talking to me, it was just trivial things like queries for the IFE. They were messages only by WhatsApp because we never spoke on the phone and I don’t know him,” Delfino said at the time.
