The Defense Minister Maya Fernándezruled out that the commander in chief of the Army, Javier Iturriaga, questioned the constitutional reform that allows the protection of critical infrastructure by the Armed Forces.
Iturriaga said that the initiative “distorts” the work they must carry out and distances them from their main role and from the operation of the military branches.

In this regard, the Secretary of State stated that “obviously they cannot replace the police in the functions they perform permanently. When they are military they have a training that is different from police training, they are different tasks.”
“At no time is it an opinion contrary to the constitutional reform, these are observations that have to remain in the text of the law,” he added.
