The president of the Departmental Legislative Assembly, Zvonko Matkovic Rivera, was able to enter the Palmasola prison to see his father Zvonko Matkovic Fleigformer Santa Cruz prefect, and when he left he said that he has already been through a similar situation and that he will not ask for “mercy.”
“They are not going to see me begging for mercy, they are not going to shovel me down. We have already been through a similar situation and my father, despite his health, has shown me his strength,” he said.
He pointed out that the former prefect was detained “unfairly” and that her heart rate reached 190, for which the prison doctors treated him until he was stabilized. “He is a person who is 69 years old and one leg was operated on for thrombosis, in the other he has the same disease. He can’t be in jail,” he added.
In addition, the president of the Assembly said that this Saturday they will present a freedom action so that his father can leave Palmasolabecause he was arrested for a labor proceeding in which the judicial system already has the resources to cancel the benefits to his former employees.
“This clearly obeys an intention of intimidation and persecution policy against my family, we demand that the judicial authorities restore my father’s rights and proceed immediately with his release,” he added.
For his part, the departmental director of the Penitentiary Regime, Mauricio Romero, explained to EL DEBER that Zvonko Matkovic Fleig was apprehended by police officers who they executed a restraining order against him which was issued by a labor court, due to the fact that a process is being followed for the payment of benefits accrued to its former employees.
Romero said that the health of the prisoner is stable and that he is isolated in a prison cell. In addition, he added that his son and his lawyer, Diego Coimbra, were allowed to enter, so that they can speak with the detainee.
Statement from the President of the Departmental Assembly
Zvonko Matkovic (son), who spent years detained in Palmasola for the case of alleged terrorism, he wrote a few paragraphs to make his feelings known to the public:
“A few days ago there was news that our case, due to the terrorism process invented by the MAS government in 2009, was going to be dealt with in the IACHR. And symptomatically, today the “masista justice” (I say justice in quotes) responds with the arrest of my father in Palmasola, the same prison where they held me unjustly for more than 10 years.
I want to say to the Santa Cruz and Bolivians who have been concerned about this new outrage which, unfortunately, it is again the consummation of a totally reckless judicial actbiased and unconstitutional.
Product of the extortions suffered by my family in 2009 when the Government of Evo Morales ordered me and my family to be persecuted, when we were fighting for autonomy, my father’s company ended up closing and going bankrupt. Due to said bankruptcy, labor lawsuits were initiated, which have been assumed by my father, who has complied with the judicial auction of his company’s assets to cover the payment of its labor debts.
The money to pay labor debts, product of the auction of my father’s company, is already in the coffers of the judiciary. But, despite that, my father’s arrest was ordered.
This clearly obeys an intention of intimidation and persecution policy against my family, we demand that the judicial authorities restore my father’s rights and immediately proceed with his release.
I want to make it clear to the masista government: they did not intimidate us before and they will not do it now. We will remain firm defending the interests of our region. My family, despite the judicial abuse that does not stop, will never stop fighting for Santa Cruz“.
