The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing important modifications in the operation of the Mexican consulates in order to facilitate the procedures that nationals carry out there, announced President Claudia Sheinbaum. However, he announced that this will imply greater coordination with state governments and other entities, since not all procedures are related to federal agencies.
He mentioned, for example, that the issuance of birth certificates is the responsibility of the state governments, because they are the ones who control the civil registries or the National Electoral Institute, responsible for the issuance of voter credentials.
Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente is working on it. He’s going to come here to present it. But we also have to move forward in facilitating procedures so that access to everything that a Mexican living abroad requires can be much easier.
added the president, who pointed out that at the start of her administration that is the chancellor’s main task.
New caravan
Migrants of different nationalities agreed to leave Tapachula, Chiapas, on Sunday, in a new caravan seeking to advance to the north of the country, the third contingent in less than a month.
In an information meeting in the Bicentennial Park of that city, the foreigners decided to leave first thing in the morning and begin to gather on Saturday night.
First God we are leaving on Sunday, we can’t be here anymore
said Guatemalan Mario López.
It is the fifth time that the 46-year-old man has tried to fulfill his goal of reaching the United States. He said that two years ago he almost made it, but he was deported as soon as he crossed the border through Houston, Texas.
No employment opportunities
We are leaving because there is no work here, it is frustrating to sit and do nothing, it is stressful.
said the Central American.
People on the move indicated that they intend to first arrive in Mexico City to find work and be able to obtain resources before continuing with their destination to the border with the United States.
Just the previous Sunday, a group of migrants also left this city and on October 5, a first group left. Both were advancing along the coast of Chiapas. The first near the municipality of Arriaga and the second near Pijijiapan.
Organizations believe that the caravans have resumed because the border is saturated, the immigration offices are overwhelmed and while they must wait for procedures, foreigners do not have employment opportunities, which complicates the situation.
