They approved in the first debate the bill on the transfer of the holiday from Carnival Tuesday to Monday

The Labor, Health and Social Development Commission of the National Assembly of Panama approved this Thursday, February 10, in the first debate, Bill 759, which temporarily transfers the mandatory rest day of Tuesday of carnival of 2022, to the previous Monday.

The proposal of deputy Daniel Ramos, seeks to offer for this year’s carnivals, in which the health authorities restricted celebrations and activities that involve crowds to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, a long weekend through which see benefited tourism and therefore the economy of the country.

“In order to achieve optimal use of mandatory rest days, contribute to the productivity of companies and, above all, contribute to the economic reactivation of the tourism sector, in all districts nationwide we must take actions to facilitate the mobilization of people. to the interior of the country, which we can achieve by transferring the mandatory rest day corresponding to Carnival Tuesday 2022 to the immediately preceding Monday,” explained Deputy Ramos, proponent of the project.

After this approval, it is expected that the bill will go to the plenary session of the Assembly for its approval in the second and third debate.

This year’s Carnival festivities will fall on Friday the 25th, Saturday the 26th, Sunday the 27th, Monday the 28th of February and Tuesday the 1st of March.
