January-June 2022 maintained the trend of being the period with the highest number of projects approved by the Government since 2017, with 49.6% only in June. The provinces with the largest number of approved projects are Santiago and the National District, with 24 projects each.
According to data published by the General Directorate of Public Investment (DGIP) of the Ministry of Economy, the total cost of the projects approved in June was 16,442.3 million pesos, for an accumulated cost of 111,325 million pesos, being the highest in the last five years.
Meanwhile, for the period January-June 2022, 64.6% of the approved projects correspond to the central government (177 projects), followed by companies and municipal governments, to which 46 were approved. The highest cost was for the central government projects for an amount of 97,376.4 million pesos.
Among the projects approved in January-June 2022 are the expansion of the sanitary sewage system in the Santiago municipality, and the construction of a funeral home in El Distrital in San Juan and the Cabeza del Río and La Cueva ecotourism areas in Hondo Valle. Also, the field equipment of the wells of the Azua aqueduct and the expansion of the sanitary sewer system in Santiago, among others.
Projects approved by geographic location
The figures presented by the agency specify that of the 136 projects that were approved in June of the current year, 16 were in the Santiago province, which represented the largest number of projects approved by location, followed later by the Monseñor Nouel and Santo provinces. Domingo with 11 projects, National District with 10 and Azua and Independencia with eight.
Likewise, 10.2% of the amount approved last June 2022 is a project in the National District for equipment for the automation of the Greater Santo Domingo pumping system, with a total cost of 1,670.4 million pesos.
The General Directorate of Public Investment reports that for the period January-June 2022, the National District and Santiago are the provinces that accounted for the largest number of approved projects, 24 of each, followed by Santo Domingo with 23 projects, San Cristóbal with 19, and Bahoruco and Independencia with fifteen.
It estimates that, since last January, the province of Santiago occupies the place with the highest total cost of approved projects 47,394 million pesos, representing 47.2% between January-June of the current year.
Works according to the functional classification
The statistical figures also estimate that for the period January-June 2022, 35% of the approved projects corresponded to health, with 96 projects; then 34.7% to housing and community services, with 95 projects; and 9.1% to sports, recreational, cultural and religious activities, with 25 projects.
While, regarding the total cost of the projects, 53.3% will be allocated to the health function.
Last June, the institution with the largest number of approved projects was represented by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, with 92 projects.
