They approve in the third debate a bill to pay interest for the thirteenth month to retirees

The plenary session of the National Assembly approved in third debate the project of law 727 that orders the payment of interest for late payment as a right derived from the retention of the second installment of the Thirteenth Month, from the years 1972 to 1983, to public servants and private sector workers who worked during this period.

With the approved document, which now requires the sanction of the Executive Branch to become a law of the Republic, the payment of interest for arrears of the Thirteenth Month is guaranteed, based on a rate of 3%, to a group of retirees who They worked in the 70s and 80s whose payment will be determined by the Executive in its regulations.

The project was approved with the unanimous vote of the 53 deputies who were present at the session.

The project takes into account the 3% rate, agreed in Law 15 of 2017 and calculating the 34 years that correspond from the last withholding of this item.

The aforementioned rule of 2017 ordered the payment of the second installment of the Thirteenth Month”, however, on this occasion the collection of interest that led to the suspension of these monies in the referred decades is effective.

It is estimated that some 23,000 retirees who are still working are waiting for these funds to effectively benefit from their retirement. In the event that the beneficiaries have died, the resource will be paid to the next of kin.
