The Communication and Transportation Commission of the National Assembly, in its ordinary meeting, approved in the first debate Bill number 763, which establishes the obligation of the uninterrupted validity of car insurance policies and safeguards their effects for damages of the national owner.
Deputy Víctor Castlillo stated that this is a great advance to bring order to the streets of the country, since there are many potholes, by those who alter vehicle policies. He stressed that this law will help drivers keep their policies up to date since they must be valid for 24 months.
“Not less than three months means that when you are going to get your license plate, you must automatically have a valid license plate,” he said and acknowledged that there are gaps for this law, but that they will be details that will be fine-tuned together with the Insurance Association before the Second Debate.
He added that there should also be an approach between insurers and the Land Traffic and Transportation Authority (ATTT) so that there is an electronic record of drivers who have their policies up to date or not.
Regarding the possibility of removing the driver’s license permanently for drivers who drive while intoxicated, he stated that “there are already regulations in force on when to remove the license and when not”.
