Facundo Santillán Julián was appointed the new head of the prosecutor’s office specialized in electoral crimes (Fisel), after José Agustín Ortiz Pinchetti died in August of last year.
One of the first challenges for this area of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) will be the resolution of complaints that are presented in relation to the election of positions for the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), which will take place next June 1, ministerial officials said.
Santillán Julián was an advisor to the presidency of the Judiciary of Mexico City (PJ-CDMX), and also served as coordinator B in the general coordination of strategic investigation of the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the federal government, the new head of the Fisel worked in the Ministry of the Interior as general director of the assignment area, a support unit for the justice system of the Ministry of the Interior from January 10 to September 30, 2024.
He served as head of the police, penitentiary and private security policy unit of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection from January 11, 2022 to 2024.
He has a master’s degree in law that he completed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and was a professor at the law school of the Universidad del Pedregal and at the Universidad del Valle de México. In 2006 he worked in the then Attorney General’s Office (now FGR), as an advisor in the senior officer’s office; He worked in the capital’s prosecutor’s office for 10 years, from 1984 to 1994 as deputy head of the specialized preliminary investigations unit.
Gertz Manero names him
Article 19, section VIII, of the Law of the Attorney General of the Republic empowers Alejandro Gertz Manero, head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), to appoint the heads of the different prosecutor’s offices.
According to ministerial sources, the appointment of Santillán Julián is being kept secret, due to the possibility that some controversy could arise in the Senate, although the law does not require Gertz Manero to have legislators grant ratification.
Santillán Julián is considered a man close to the legal advisor of the Executive Branch, Ernestina Godoy, and the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez. The ownership of Fisel was in charge of Ortiz Pinchetti from 2019 until August of last year, when the person considered by Andrés Manuel López Obrador died. a true democrat
