The announcement of investing more than $40 billion starting this year for the recovery of the old railway lines that are not being used was made by the governor of the department, Roberto Jairo Jaramillo, during the Anato tourist showcase.
The plan is to turn the Salento-Armenia, Armenia-Montenegro and Montenegro-Quimbaya routes into bike paths – greenways. In addition, it is expected to recover five train stations that are located in those same municipalities and convert them into service places.
“The old railways, which are not being used at the moment, become the greenways through a project that was presented to Invías, with an investment of more than $40 billion to have them rehabilitated again”said the Governor.
The idea, said the president, is to take advantage of the needs that tourists have to do more outdoor activities after the two hard years they have experienced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Cyclists will be able to ride these routes safely. They are roads that do not have steep slopes” and in the seasons you will find “Bathrooms in the best conditions, the proteins they need, seasonal fruits and the sale of recreational products.”
The objective is to seduce families who are interested in rest and recreation plans, in a calm, healthy and silent way, during the day and at night, since the green routes will have artificial lighting.
“I think there is a big boom in the world of cycling. We already have mountain and road biking, but we didn’t have this recreational part. Now that we were in Spain, at Fitur, the agencies are asking for this type of plan”Jaramillo added.
The Quindío tour package It is complemented with bird watching plans, which are focused on foreign tourists interested in the rich diversity of the country. In that sense, the department is working on the entry of new air routes.
One of the options proposed is to ensure that a Spanish airline flies directly to the capital of the department and that Ultra Air, which recently entered the Colombian market, also operates between Armenia and a beach destination in the country.
Bird watching is carried out, mainly, in the municipalities of Génova, Pijao, Córdoba and Buenavista, but the idea is that this circuit also integrates the german innthe extinct drug trafficking asset that will become a tourist attraction in a few weeks.
In fact, the authorities of the department have already delivered the last document to the Presidency of the Republic, which will allow the construction of some cable cars for the transport of visitors. Some of the corridors of the place will be used for bird watching.
