‘The Visit’ was written by Cuban Orlando Rossardi.
MIAMI, United States. – The Thespis theater company, directed by actress and director Marcia Arencibia Henderson, announced the revival of the piece The visitby the Cuban writer Orlando Rossardi with performances on Saturday, February 7 at 8:00 pm and Sunday the 8th at 5:00 pm, at the SAH Conservatory of Dramatic Arts (2186 NW 87th Ave., Doral, FL 33172).
General admission is $25; Seniors and students pay $15. The cast of the play includes Arencibia Henderson herself and Marlén Martín, with a special performance by Christian Ocón, who is also in charge of the scenery, while Saúl Barat is in charge of the sound and lights.
According to the advertisement, sent to CubaNetthe revival comes “by popular demand” and “responding to the public’s continued request,” after what was a “resounding box office success.”
The material adds that the replacement was possible “in part” thanks to contributions from Demetrio Pérez Jr., from the Lincoln-Martí Schools, and from La Gota de Agua Editionsbased in Philadelphia.
The revival in Doral is announced months after the play returned to the stage in Miami as a posthumous tribute to Rossardi. In April 2025, journalist Luis de la Paz reported that Arencibia Henderson carried The visit to the tables as “the only theatrical work written and published” by the author, with a version “based on the original text, published in 1997.”
Regarding the nature of the text, the same coverage cited the characterization included in the book edition: “The visit It is a short comedy in two acts and two dark ones.” He also placed it within the theater of the absurd and described its dramatic premise: two sisters, Casilda and Eremilda, prepare a reception for figures of power, while “a large group of ghosts from the past” burst in and “Mr. Verdict” appears, associated with the final dispossession of the house and its objects.
A documentary background of the work appears in an issue of the magazine Playwrights (volume II, number 2), which includes fragments of The visit and indicates that it was premiered in Madrid, at the Institute of Hispanic Culture, in June 1961.
Rossardi (Orlando Rodríguez Sardiñas) was a Cuban author linked to intellectual and cultural exile, with an extensive work in poetry, essays and journalism.
Ediciones La Gota de Agua is an editorial project promoted by the writer Rolando Morelli from Philadelphia, with publication work and organization of recognition events for Cuban authors in exile.
