Three Colombian universities are among those with the best reputation in the labor market. This is evidenced by the most recent QS World ranking, which highlights information from almost 500 educational institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
To build the list, the firm considers some important indicators such as its international research network, personnel who have a doctorate, academic and work reputation. Specifically, in this last case, universities are classified based on how ‘desired’ their graduating students are when it comes to entering the world of employment.
According to the ranking, the institution that tops the employability list is the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC), with a score of 100, this being the highest rating.
Next on the list appears the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), followed by the
National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Tecnológico de Monterrey, in third and fourth place, respectively.
Taking the case of Colombia as a reference, the three universities that entered the ‘top’ 10 are: the University of the Andes (5), the National University of Colombia (7) and the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Together, these institutions also stood out in other areas such as academic reputation, staff with doctorates, and research.
Other Colombian academic centers also appear in the first 20 positions. The University of La Sabana and the Externado University of Colombia are included in that list, in position 18 and 19, respectively.
In the general classification, the firm highlighted that Latin America and the Caribbean are experiencing changes in the number of students and their demographics due to the growth of the middle class seeking degrees and professional qualifications.
“The region still has a long way to go to achieve results comparable to those of major markets due to long-standing difficulties, such as a lack of infrastructure, financial incentives and research frameworks published in English. However, its affordable, online education options are attractive to both domestic and international students”highlights QS World.
