To the regions
The Congress of the Republic reported that, from Monday, August 26 to Friday, August 30, 2024, parliamentarians will carry out the Week of Representation, the first of this new legislative period. They will supposedly travel to the regions for which they were elected to make contact with the population, collect their demands and oversee the actions of local authorities. According to what we have already seen, many are packing their bags not precisely to carry out that work, but to do tourism. We will see.

Dangerous aftershocks
Fujimori congressman Fernando Rospigliosi presented a bill that seeks to sanction and penalize the use of replicas of firearms in the commission of crimes. The initiative seeks to modify various articles of a legislative decree in order to provide justice operators with the mechanisms to capture, investigate and sentence those who use these imitations to threaten and steal. It was about time.

Ethics complaint
Congresswoman Susel Paredes reported to the Ethics Commission the parliamentarian María Agüero, from the Peru Libre bench, for the discriminatory phrases she launched against the LGBTI community and in reference to the Independencia Americana and Micaela Bastidas schools of the region for which she was elected during an interview in 2021. We want to see what other crazy argument she will come up with when she has to appear before that group. For now, she has earned the repudiation of all the people of Arequipa.

More fuel to the fire
In a video that was shared on social media, Agüero said he recognized “my mistake” for his unfortunate statements, and apologized “to the Peruvian people,” but he did not do the same with the people of Arequipa. However, he did not miss the opportunity to insist, rather foolishly, on a Constituent Assembly.
