The president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), Celso Marranzinirevealed on Monday the provinces where the highest levels of energy loss are recorded.
During President Luis Abinader’s weekly meeting with the press, at the National Palace, Marranzini presented a map showing San Cristobal, Santiago and La Vegaas the areas with the greatest losses in the production gigawatt-hour (GWh per month).
They are followed by Monseñor Nouel; San Pedro de Macorís; Duarte; La Altagracia; La Romana; Monte Plata and Barahona. The reason for the loss of energy, according to Marranzini, is due to the poor state of the networks and fraud by high-consumption customers.
In this regard, the president of CUED said that currently all the provinces in the national territory register energy losses (GWH per month) every month, thus establishing as a challenge for 2027, the reduction of these losses in the three distributors.
The goal is to bring Edenorte and Edesur to around 20% energy loss, and Edeeste to 40%, for which we seek to improve management in areas that have adequate networks, invest in networks in places that require it and pursue fraud in high-consumption customers.
He said that 650 million dollars have been set aside for the three distributors, with the support of international banking institutions, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
During the meeting with the press, Marranzini also revealed that in the country nearly 800 thousand users are not paying for their electricity service.
“This is historic. We continue to have an impressive number of users who do not pay (for the electricity service),” Marranzini lamented.
