At the moment, at least 10 presidential candidates in Peru have shown their position on the United States military intervention in Venezuela and the consequent capture of the dictator Nicolás Maduro during the early hours of this Saturday.
Through their X accounts, formerly Twitter, some right-wing candidates have greeted Donald Trump’s government operation; while others on the left have shown their concern about the lack of respect for international law and the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people.

For example, after welcoming Donald Trump’s decision, the Fuerza Popular candidate, Keiko Fujimori, He described the US military intervention to capture the “narcoterrorist Nicolás Maduro” as “impressive.”
“A historical event that marks the end of a criminal dictatorship that oppressed its people, destroyed institutions and cut short the dreams of millions of Venezuelans,” wrote, paradoxically, the daughter of the late dictator Alberto Fujimori.
Along the same lines, the leader of Renovación Popular, Rafael López Aliaga, celebrated the deployment of the United States military in a country that is not their own, like Venezuela.
“Long live the brother people of Venezuela! The murderous drug dictatorship of Maduro and his criminal organization has fallen. Honor and glory to the heroes who gave their lives to recover freedom in Venezuela. Congratulations to María Corina Machado,” the far-right published on his X account.
The candidate of the Force and Freedom alliance, Fiorella Molinellialso showed a similar position to that of the first two.
“Latin America cannot normalize misery, exile or repression. Democracy is not negotiated. Our solidarity is with the Venezuelans who resisted, who did not surrender and who never stopped believing in a different future. May this be the beginning of a region that is firmer in the face of dictatorships and more united in defense of freedom,” he responded.
Meanwhile, the Libertad Popular candidate, Rafael Belaundedemanded that other members of the leadership of the Chavista regime of Nicolás Maduro be captured. “Now for Diosdado Cabello and Vladimir Padrino (ministers) to end 25 years of narco-Chavez dictatorship. In Latin America there can be no room for dictatorship.”
The leader of Alliance for Progress, César Acuña, He also spoke in that same sense, but in a general way. “The fall of Maduro brings hope to Venezuela and touches my heart. I empathize with the refugees, their resilience unites us. “May this change inspire opportunities for everyone,” he stated on his social networks.
Left positions
In a reaction contrary to those mentioned above, the candidate of Ahora Nación, Alfonso López Chaucondemned the US attack in Venezuela.
“From Ahora Nación we condemn any military intervention by one State in the territory of another and reaffirm the importance of respecting international law and the charter of the United Nations, in particular the principle of refraining from the use or threat of force. We do so with the authority of having always condemned the dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro. We are committed to peaceful solutions, the protection of the civilian population and a democratic, united and peaceful Latin America,” he published.
The fugitive leader of Peru Libre, Vladimir Cerronshowed his solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of the bombing of their capital and other states. “Latin America cannot be complicit in an imperialist war that will later return it. We should not look at this matter in profile, it is something very serious,” he said.
Likewise, the Together for Peru candidate, Roberto Sanchezclaimed disrespect for the United Nations Peace Charter. “We reject military aggression against Venezuela. “The Government of Donald Trump is not the master of Latin America and we are not its backyard. The self-determination of the people and non-military intervention are unrestricted rights to defend,” he stated.
Those in the center
The Popular Cooperation candidate, Yonhy Lescano, welcomed the fall of the dictator Nicolás Maduro; However, on the other hand, he condemned the US military attack.
“The fall of Maduro for the Venezuelan people is a joy. If Trump captured the dictator it is a violation of international law. But they only took out Maduro and his wife who had a lot of security, they say with bombing. Then Diosdado speaks, this seems like a negotiated solution,” he said.
For his part, the APRA candidate, Enrique Valderramaspecified that Maduro will now be tried for being responsible for serious crimes against his population and for drug trafficking and international organized crime. However, he was concerned about US intervention.
“I want to remember the importance of the principles of public international law, including the self-determination of peoples and sovereignty. Haya de la Torre spoke that the only good interventionism is that which liberates and then withdraws. Vigilant and with deep concern about the way things have turned out in Venezuela,” he responded on his social networks.
