At least 14 prey and political prisoners The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have not yet exhibited them before their propaganda media. Between August 30 and 31, the regime ordered the Police to take around twenty conscientious hostages to the Central Judicial Complex in Managua for an “informative hearing” on their cases. This decision of the regime comes after the denunciation of the reduction of food portions to detainees.
The 20 political prisoners who were presented in court are detained in the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as “El Chipote”, a center where they are subjected to various tortures, according to complaints from their relatives and human rights organizations.
Among the 14 political prisoners who have not been brought before the Ortega judges are the activist Violeta Granera Padilla, the journalist Miguel Mendoza, the opposition Alex Hernández, the human rights defender María Oviedo, the economist Harry Chávez, the activist Yader Parajón, the Unamos member Muammar Vado and peasant leaders Freddy Navas and Pedro Mena. All of them are detained in “El Chipote”.

The other political prisoners who are not in the DAJ, but who were also captured on the eve of the presidential elections and after them are: the activist Yoel Sandino, Yubrank Suazo and Nidia Barbosa, from the Civic Alliance; the activist Samanta Jirón and the human rights defender Evelyn Pinto.
The dictatorship accused all political prisoners of various crimes of treason against the country, including conspiracy to undermine national integrity and propagation of false news under the alleged violation of Law 1054 and Law 1042, Law of Sovereignty and Special Cybercrime Law, respectively.
Most of the hostages of conscience that the dictatorship has not yet presented have already served more than a year in the regime’s prisons. Those who have minor sons and daughters have not been able to see them, as in the case of journalist Miguel Mendoza.
Opposition and human rights organizations have demanded – separately – that the regime present them so that it can confirm the serious deterioration of their physical and health condition that they suffer after spending several months in prison under cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
