In a virulent speech during the 43rd anniversary of the Police, the dictator Daniel Ortega cataloged the Catholic Church as “a perfect dictatorship” and said that they cannot speak of democracy when even the pope himself is imposed by a group of religious. Likewise, he again accused the Nicaraguan bishops and priests of orchestrating the alleged “coup d’état” of 2018.
“An institution like the Catholic Church using its bishops to stage a coup, since when do they have the morals to talk about democracy? Who chooses the bishops, the pope? If you are going to be democratic, begin to elect the priests of each community with the vote of the population, but all are taxes, it is a tyranny, a perfect dictatorship,” said Ortega, who is accused of being the main repressor of His town.

The dictator’s words come after Pope Francis affirmed on September 15 that there is a “dialogue” between the Holy See and the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murilloalthough according to the maximum leader, “this does not mean that he approves or disapproves of everything the government does.”
The dictator also took the opportunity to once again accuse the political prisoners of being, together with the Catholic Church, behind the attempted “coup d’état” of 2018; and to rant against those who have called for their release, as the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has done in recent days; the secretary general of the United Nations, António Guterres; and the United States Assistant Secretary of State for the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols.
The president called the governments of the region that have joined this campaign in favor of political prisoners “lapdogs,” and assured that what they want is to receive “applause from the empire” (United States) and the European Union.
The Nicaraguan regime ordered the expulsion of the European Union (EU) ambassador in Managua, Bettina Muscheidt, a year after being appointed to the post, confirmed European diplomatic sources.
According to the information, the ambassador was notified verbally through a Foreign Ministry official. The employee reportedly told her that her expulsion was due to alleged “interference and disrespect for national sovereignty” by the European bloc. However, in the afternoon, the regime still had not issued any official statement.
