Daniel Ortega continues to show signs of his desire to manipulate the Nicaraguan Army and the Police, whom he has dragged until they become armed arms of his dynastic dictatorship.

The Nicaraguan dictator sent two bills to reform the Military Code and the Police Law to extend the term of the head of both institutions to six years.

The first initiative is Law to Reform Law No. 181, Code of Organization, Jurisdiction and Military Social Security. Currently, article 8 of the Military Code establishes that “the Commander in Chief of the Army will be appointed by the President of the Republic at the proposal of the Military Council for a period of five years.

The appointment will be made on December 21 and he will take office on February 21 of the year following his appointment. The Military Council’s proposal must be sent to the President of the Republic at least one month before the date of its appointment. “The outgoing Commander-in-Chief of the Army will continue in the exercise of the same until his successor takes office.”

Furthermore, it establishes that “the Commander in Chief of the Army will be appointed by the President of the Republic at the proposal of the Military Council for a period of six years…».

Regarding the initiative of Law to Reform Law No. 872, Law of Organization, Functions, Career and Special Social Security Regime of the National PoliceOrtega orders to do the same with his father-in-law and current director of the repressive entity.

The current police law establishes in its article 47, on the appointment of the Director General that “The President of the Republic in his capacity as Supreme Chief of the National Police will appoint Director General of the National Police for a period of five years, among the members of the National Headquarters, who have the rank of Commissioner General.

The appointment will be made on July 5 of the year in which it corresponds and he will take office on September 5 of the same year.

In his reform initiative, the dictator orders that the provision now reads that “The President of the Republic in his capacity as Supreme Chief of the National Police will appoint Director General Director of the National Police for a period of six years...».

Enrique Martínez, opposition activist and spokesperson for the Platform of Unity for Democracy (PUDE), pointed out that these reforms sent by the dictators have “profound implications for the country’s internal politics and reinforce the authoritarian control of the Sandinista regime of Daniel Ortega y Rosario Murillo, also connected to the consolidation of the authoritarian model that they created with the recent constitutional reforms.

He assessed that by extending these periods of police and military mandates, Sandinismo “ensures the continuity of leadership aligned with interests, which produces a risk of internal fractures or opposition movements within the institutions.”

Former guerrilla Dora María Téllez, political analyst, historian and researcher, pointed out that all these changes sent by the regime, and those that it has already made, such as those of the Political Constitution, “are a manifestation of weakness. “I mean, there is no need, they would have no need to do that if the regime did not have a weakness that has not yet fully come to light.”

«The latest defensive movements in relation to those sanctioned, to grab the Constitution and destroy it, establish the dictatorial system in the body of the Constitution and leave the human, political and social rights of Nicaraguans eliminated there, all of this is a sample of the “weakness of the regime, which intends to address its weakness with a role,” said the Nicaraguan opponent, released from prison and exiled as an Ortega politician.

Téllez assures that the fragility and weakness of the Ortega-Murillo regime lies in the fact that “it does not have political support in Nicaragua, because it is completely isolated internationally and because financially things are not going well either, since the Nicaraguan economy resents the fact that millions of Nicaraguans have left, that there are labor problems, that investment is not activated because, who is going to trust a regime that does not provide judicial independence? “What Ortega and Murillo are showing is a profound weakness.”

The deputies of the National Assembly at the service of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship approved on November 25 the Law for the Protection of Nicaraguans against Sanctions and Aggressions, known only as the Sanctioned Law, which puts the national private bank in danger. .

With a unanimous vote, that is, also with the favorable vote of the stilt deputies, the Sandinistas approved the new legislative norm with which the regime seeks to protect all its political operators, among whom are several of its figureheads, so that the sanctions that the international community has applied to them, are not assumed by national banking institutions.

In his justification for putting these new regulations into effect, the political operator of the dictators Gustavo Porras, who serves as president of the Sandinista National Assembly and is also one of those sanctioned, insisted that the Law approved by them “protects Nicaraguans and its institutions in the face of sanctions and attacks carried out by States or groups of States, Governments or foreign organizations, which threaten and endanger the sovereignty, security, development plans of Nicaragua and harm the finances and free foreign and domestic trade.
