These are the most important news of November 21, 2022

After 84 days without visits, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo allowed the political prisoners of El Nuevo Chipote to be seen by a family member. As of Saturday, November 19, relatives of detained opponents were authorized to appear at the Directorate of Judicial Assistance.

Ill treatment, isolation, health problems and poor nutrition prevail in the cells. They point out that the prisoners continue to lose weight and demand a bible, a blanket or reading material, requests that are denied.

At least five of the detainees were on a hunger strike. One of the cases is that of the sports writer Miguel Mendoza, who requests a meeting with his eight-year-old daughter Alejandra. He has not seen her since June 21, 2021, when he was imprisoned for commenting on social networks.

Another of the prisoners who has already received a visit from their relatives was Medardo Mairena. On Sunday they verified that the inhumane conditions persist to the point that the peasant leader was detained for a month in a punishment cell without any justification.

The son of the former Ortega mayor of Managua, Daysi Torres, Allan Roman Mendieta Torreswould have left Nicaragua with the aim of reaching the United States.

According to sources, Mendieta Torres is in Mexico waiting to be able to cross irregularly into US territory. The citizen would have requested a stay permit for thirty days, which is provided by the immigration authorities of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.

A photograph of the permit with the data of the son of the former leader of the Managua Mayor’s Office circulated on social networks. The document was delivered on November 18, according to images.

The departure of Allan Mendieta Torres, 41, occurs in a context where sympathizers, officials and prominent Sandinistas have fled the country due to state persecution from which not even Ortega’s loyal followers are spared.

The former guerrilla and now political prisoner Dora María Téllez turns 67 this Monday from the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, in Managua, where she has been detained since June 13, 2021 by orders of the regime by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. It is her second birthday that she spends in prison.

The political group Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos) recalled the anniversary of Téllez, who since his arrest has only received 11 visits.

The also historian and key figure of Sandinismo, who contributed to the overthrow of the other Somoza dictatorship, is one of the elderly political prisoners to whom the Ortega-Murillos deny the benefit of house arrest; despite the fact that, from their homes, the political prisoners continue to be subjected to isolation and lack of adequate medical care, according to complaints.

Telecommunications of America, Tecomunica Nicaragua, is the new company that will offer internet and cable services nationwide, according to the information registered on its website. This new investment was made public after Daniel Ortega’s speech in which he stated that more taxes should be charged to telecommunications companies, in an open threat to commercial companies already established in the country.

Telecomunicaciones de América SA is a partnership between Grupo ICE of Costa Rica and Empresa Nacional de Transmisión Eléctrica (Enatrel), where its office is located. It arose in 2016, through its publication in La Gaceta on March 2, in which it reflects Ruthmary del Socorro Vanegas Solórzano, registered as a lawyer, as proxy.

Tecomunica has been the company that since its creation has been protected by the Ortega regime. It was chosen for the distribution of Wi-Fi in most parks in the country, in addition to providing maintenance. Until now, Tecomunica enabled services for the home and activated its website.
