The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, through the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Post Office (Telcor), resumed the operations of Channel 51, with which the Catholic Channel of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua operated.

The frequency is under the name of Nicarao TVan unknown media outlet created, apparently, suddenly after the dispossession of the channel from the Catholic Church.

According to the digital media Despacho 505, the Celeste SA consortium, from which Viva Nicaragua – Canal 13 operates, managed by Camila, Maurice and Luciana Ortega Murillo, would be in charge of the new television channel. Like all official media outlets, Nicarao TV broadcasts political propaganda in favor of Daniel Ortega. The family in power controls almost all television frequencies in the country, adding about eight in total.

Spanish poet and journalist Daniel Rodríguez Moya insisted to MEPs on the need to designate sanctions against Nicaraguan judges who have sentenced political prisoners in the Central American country. The request was made at a meeting held at the headquarters of the European Parliament prior to the presentation of his documentary “Nicaragua, homeland free to live”, within the framework of the fourth anniversary of the massacre of May 30, 2018.

The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) denounced that “arbitrariness” was committed in the initial hearing, held this Tuesday, against the opposition leader of the city of Masaya, Yubrank Suazo.

The young man, accused by the dictatorship of alleged conspiracy to undermine national integrity, was subjected to a 40-minute hearing behind closed doors. The authorities also did not allow the entry of the opponent’s family. Suazo remained under preventive detention and the date of the start of the trial is still unknown.

With the favorable vote of the 75 deputies of the Sandinista caucus, the cancellation of the legal personality of 83 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) was approved, among which the Foundation of former liberal president Enrique Bolaños and the Nicaraguan Academy of Language stand out.

The Nicaragua Never Again Collective denounced a government “systematic repression” against NGOs since the sociopolitical crisis of 2018. According to the organization, both the Government and the Parliament, controlled by the Sandinistas, “execute the will of a tyranny with the purpose of exercising absolute control» and, to date, they have closed more than 300 associations.

The White House insisted that it is seeking a migration agreement at the Summit of the Americas, to be held from June 6 to 10 in Los Angeles, United States, despite the absence of Venezuela and Nicaragua and doubts about the presence of Cuba and Mexico.

A high-ranking official from the United States Government explained that they are working on a declaration supported by those attending the summit in which they will share their vision on how to face “the migratory challenge together.”

In this way, the Joe Biden administration continues with its plans, despite the fact that last week the coordinator of the Summit of the Americas, Kevin O’Reilly, made it clear that neither Venezuela nor Nicaragua were going to be invited and showed ambiguous about Cuba, whose president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, has said that “in no case” will he attend the meeting.
