The dictator Daniel Ortega raised the attack against the Catholic Church and this Friday ordered the freezing of the bank accounts of the religious institution in an attempt to suffocate it financially. The measure began to be implemented last Saturday with some Dioceses and the Archdiocese of Managua.
A source from the Catholic Church confirmed that the order has been executed against churches, schools, radio stations and even the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua. The Finance Bank, La Fise-Bancentro and the Production Bank have notified that the funds cannot be moved.

The dictatorship’s maneuver intends to cause a stoppage of the normal activities of the religious institution, since it will be unable to honor its economic commitments by seeing its administrative operation interrupted.

This same week, the dictatorship ordered the opening of an investigation process against three priests close to Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, imprisoning one and keeping the others under house arrest.
The Nunca Más Nicaragua Human Rights Collective condemned the arbitrary detention of Father Jaime Montesinos, 61 years old.
