The president of Brazil, the leftist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has finally revealed what happened to the mediation in favor of the then politically imprisoned Catholic bishop Rolando Álvarez, and that is that the dictator Daniel Ortega never wanted to answer his phone calls, which is why now the leader of the South American country does not want to hear from his ideological counterpart in Nicaragua either.
During a meeting with foreign correspondents, with whom he discussed the issue of Bishop Álvarez, who was imprisoned and sentenced to more than 26 years for fabricated crimes, President Lula revealed that the Nicaraguan tyrant has not answered his phone since June 2023, when it was made public that Pope Francis asked him to intercede on behalf of the religious leader imprisoned by the Nicaraguan dictatorship.

“He (Pope Francis) asked me to talk to Ortega about a bishop who was in prison,” Lula explained to journalists from international agencies and media.
“The fact is that Ortega did not answer the phone and did not want to talk to me. So, I never spoke to him again,” said the leader of the leftist Workers’ Party (PT) of Brazil.
For the president of the largest economy in South America and one of the main members of the emerging economies grouped in the BRICS, it is regrettable that this is happening with “a guy who made a revolution like the one Ortega made to overthrow Somoza.”
The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo continues to use the treasury, which comes from the taxes of each Nicaraguan, for partisan political purposes. Mayors, universities, institutes, ministries and state companies reported, through the Electronic Administrative Contracting System (Siscae), purchases of thousands of t-shirts, caps and flags “alluding to the Revolution.”
Article 66 It was found that the mayors, institutes, ministries, companies and public universities, only those that reported their purchases in Siscae, spent 2,851,551 cordobas on the acquisition of 10,781 t-shirts, which were used for the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, in which public workers were forced to participate.
The purchases also included, in eight of the procedures, purchases that totaled the acquisition of 1,840 caps, 730 flags or pennants, 1,100 scarves and 300 bandanas.
The data was extracted from a data analysis carried out by this media outlet on 34 purchasing procedures, reported in June and July, by 10 municipalities, 4 universities, 4 state-owned companies, 2 institutes, a ministry and a center.
It is worth mentioning that 10 of the purchasing processes, although they had already completed the deadline for their award, were still under the category of “evaluation” or “current”, in which no data is shared about what was purchased, to whom it was awarded and for what amount.

Daniel Ortega once again granted full powers to his son and advisor for investments, trade and cooperation, Laureano “El Chiqüin” Ortega Murillo, this time so that, on behalf of the regime, he could sign the beginning of what they project as an agreement on trade and cooperation with the satellite regime of Russia in the Republic of Belarus, and also granted full powers to the director of Customs of Nicaragua to sign another customs cooperation agreement with that country.
Through presidential agreement 111-2024, published in La Gaceta, Official Gazette, number 132, the tyrant grants “full powers” to Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo “as presidential advisor for the promotion of investments, trade and international cooperation so that, acting on behalf and representing the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, he may sign the “road map for the development of economic and commercial cooperation between the Republic of Nicaragua and the Republic of Belarus.”
Laureano “El Chigüin” Ortega, who is seen as first in line to the Sandinista dynasty after his mother Rosario Murillo, has previously been given several “full powers” to represent his father in signing trade agreements with Russia and China.
