These are the most important news of July 17, 2024

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo removed, through presidential agreement 108-2024, Martha Elena Ruiz Sevilla, from the position of presidential advisory minister for “international policies and affairs.”

“To revoke the appointment of Martha Elena Ruiz Sevilla to the position of Minister Advisor to the President of the Republic for International Policies and Affairs,” states the first article of the presidential agreement. Furthermore, in article 2, it establishes that the order takes effect from the date of its publication in La Gaceta.

Ruiz Sevilla held the position of advisor for “policies and international affairs” for a period of two years and three months, since April 2021, the date on which the Ortega administration announced her appointment through presidential agreement 77-2021, replacing the deceased Paul Oquist.

Martha Elena Ruiz is a lawyer and wife of the Chief of Staff of the Nicaraguan Army, Major General Bayardo Ramón Rodríguez; sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury in January 2022, and who has been one of the high-ranking officers of the armed forces who have sworn loyalty to the Sandinista dictator.

Rodríguez was accused of carrying out acts of violence ordered by the Nicaraguan State, led by dictators Ortega and Murillo. Among these acts, according to the sanctions letter, it is mentioned that the “Nicaraguan Army not only refused to order the disarmament and dismantling of paramilitary or parapolice forces during and after the political uprisings, but, in addition, evidence indicates that it also provided weapons to the parapolice groups that perpetrated acts of violence against Nicaraguans.”

The United States Government, through the State Department of that country, in a report entitled “Investment Climate Statements for 2024”, Nicaragua chapter, warned investors that they should be “extremely cautious” if they decide to invest in Nicaraguan territory.

Nicaragua, controlled by the Ortega Murillo dictatorship, highlights the letter from the US Government, maintains “suspended civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution (Policy of Nicaragua), the detention of political prisoners, the confiscation of private property and its contempt for the rule of law, creating an investment climate rife with reputational risk and arbitrary regulation».

US authorities argue that investment risks in Nicaragua are high, highlighting that in the country, especially during 2023, the Ortega Murillo dictatorship “hardened the repression (against) the Nicaraguan private sector in 2023 by revoking the legal status and expropriating the assets of 19 of the country’s main business chambers.”

He noted that in 2023, after the expulsion of the group of more than 200 political prisoners, who were sent on a direct flight to the United States, the Ortega dictatorship also “stripped them of their Nicaraguan nationality, erased them from the civil registry, froze their bank accounts and expropriated their assets.”

Linda Fornos, a Nicaraguan who arrived in the United States 16 years ago, participated in the Republican Party convention where former President Donald Trump was in the front row, with a harsh speech against the economic policy of the current Democratic President Joe Biden and his flexibility with immigration.

Fornos, who is the aunt of Karly Fornos, a creator of adult content and presenter on a Sandinista regime channel, stated during her speech that Biden’s policy against undocumented migrants is soft. She also criticized the fact that funds are allocated to receive undocumented immigrants. “It is upsetting to see millions of dollars sent to help immigrants who came here illegally while families who did it correctly are left abandoned.”

“Immigration only harms legal migrants,” said the Nicaraguan who is already a naturalized American citizen and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to her social media, Fornos recently traveled to Nicaragua to participate with her children in horse riding activities and took the opportunity to enjoy the country’s nightlife with her niece, who is openly Sandinista.

Linda Fornos, now openly declared a Republican, a Trump supporter and anti-immigrant, strangely has carte blanche to enter Nicaragua, her country of origin, subjugated by a dictatorial tyranny that prevents citizens from entering the territory, or strips nationalities and confiscates property for the simple reason of criticizing that regime.
