The Daniel Ortega regime canceled this Friday the legal personality of 17 Non-Governmental Organizations related to chronic kidney patients, association of merchants and bankers.
According to the dictatorship, these “breached the laws” by not submitting their financial statements or having a current board of directors. An allegation that, on previous occasions, has been denied by some affected NGOs.
Among those canceled are the Association of Private Banks of Nicaragua (Asobanp) and the AMARTE Foundation, promoter of the Animal Welfare Law.

The Association of Private Banks of Nicaragua (Asobanp) was founded in 1993 with the objective of “facilitating the exchange of experiences to improve the conditions of the banking environment and strengthen relations between the government and the private sector in the promotion of best banking practices.”
Asobanp was made up of executives from Banco de Finanzas (BDF), Banco Ficohsa, BAC Credomatic, Banco Lafise, Banpro and Avanz Nicaragua.
An anonymous economist told us that the cancellation of Asobanp is a “passing of accounts of a political nature”, after, in 2019, the organization positioned itself against the Tax Agreement Reform Law proposed by the Daniel Ortega regime .
The banking entities “will continue to work as normal because, individually, they will continue to be regulated by the Siboif”, but they will no longer have the possibility of presenting a joint position to the Executive.
Another aspect that the economist pointed out is that with the outlawing of Asobanp, the Nicaraguan dictatorship could try to “create its own association of banks.”
The Nicaraguan Teachers’ Union Unit (USMN) denounced that the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo is promoting a diploma course for teachers focused on presenting them with the laws of Cybercrime, Foreign Agents and the so-called “Sovereignty Law”, regulations described as repressive by political and human rights organizations.
The laws were approved between October 2020 and January 2021, and have been the legal instruments to arrest and sentence union leaders and opponents, as well as to annihilate civil society.
The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo increased the number of political prisoners to 245 as of January of this year, according to the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners.
With this data, 10 new arrests are reflected, mainly of residents linked to the Catholic Church and relatives of political prisoners.
The organization points out that, during the last two months, they have observed “the increasing use of attacks on relatives of political prisoners and activists. These acts have been used by the State as exemplary and instructive mechanisms, which seek to deepen self-censorship and citizen demobilization in the fight for the freedom of political prisoners.
President Daniel Ortega criticized the United Nations on Thursday (UN) and his secretary general, António Guterres, during a meeting in Managua with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amir Abdolahian.

“What is the United Nations for? If the United Nations, its General Assembly, has voted countless times to suspend the blockade (US embargo against Cuba) and nothing happens,” the Sandinista president reproached.
In Ortega’s opinion, the fact that the United States does not comply with the resolutions of the UN General Assembly “means that the United Nations is in the hands of the Yankee empire and that the Secretary General of the United Nations is simply an instrument of imperialist policy.” ”.
