The Nicaraguan regime, in apparent collusion with certain banking institutions, could be “taking possession” of the money of citizens stripped of their Nicaraguan nationality.

The alert was given by the journalist Aníbal Toruño, director of Radio Darío, who denounced that the Bank of Central America (BAC Credomatic Nicaragua) blocked their bank accounts without prior notice.

Toruño was stripped of his nationality on February 15, along with 93 other citizens, including activists, priests, human rights defenders, and journalists.

The dictatorship also ordered them to be stripped of their assets, without holding any trial.

Seven days after the Government of Panama offered nationality to the 317 Nicaraguans declared stateless, President Daniel Ortega decided to withdraw his ambassador to that country.

The now former diplomat Marvin Roberto Ortega Rodríguez was appointed to the position since 2016. The reasons for his dismissal were not reported.

Likewise, at the time that Ortega Rodríguez was removed from his post, the regime appointed the journalist Consuelo Sandoval Meza in the position of Minister Counselor with consular functions in Panama.

The Ministry of the Interior (Migob) canceled the legal status of 18 non-governmental organizations for allegedly “failing to comply” with the laws that regulate them, while accepting the “voluntary” dissolution of four other organizations.

Among those eliminated are the Nicaraguan Hemophilia Association and the Association of Ex-Combatants and Collaborators of the FSLN “Comandante César Augusto Salinas Pinell”.

The associations that decided to dissolve are the Association of Retirees of San Jorge, the Manolo Morales Foundation, the Association of Mercy for the Women and Children of the Tropics, and the Central American Council for Sustainable Fisheries Development (Concepesca).

The regime has canceled more than three thousand NGOs since 2018, many of them active in education and health.

A group of Nicaraguan political prisoners released continues to denounce before the international community the ordeal to which they were subjected during their captivity.

Former presidential candidate Juan Sebastián Chamorro announced that they recently held meetings with delegations from various member countries before the United Nations Human Rights Council.

It was the third day of lobbying before the agency. Chamorro stated that “the violation of the Human Right to have a nationality has generated special attention.”
