Human rights defenders and various voices in society have supported the proposal to nominate the monsignor for the 2024 Nobel Prize. Among them, the exiled priest Uriel Vallejos, also a politically persecuted Nicaraguan regime, who asked for support for “lovers of justice, freedom and democracy.
The Center for Inter-American Legal Assistance in Human Rights (Calidh) also expressed its support for the application, while expressing its rejection of the decision of the Nicaraguan regime to transfer the prelate to a punishment cell.

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo stripped another 94 Nicaraguans of their nationality, accusing them of being alleged traitors to the homeland.
The list includes activists, political analysts, journalists, writers, human rights defenders and religious.

Among them, the auxiliary bishop of Managua, Monsignor Silvio Báez; the journalist Carlos Fernando Chamorro; the peasant leader Francisca “Chica” Ramírez; former magistrate Rafael Solís; the human rights defender Vilma Núñez de Escorcia; and the journalist Álvaro Navarro, director of Article 66.
The dictatorship imposed accessory penalties such as the immobilization and confiscation of all real estate and companies that they have registered in their favor, either personally or as legal entities or companies in which they participate as partners.
19 organizations that make up the so-called “Nicaragua Lucha Coalition” demanded that the countries of the continent renew the mandate of the Group of Experts on Human Rights on Nicaragua (GHREN), as well as the monitoring of the High Commissioner in the United Nations Human Rights Council about the situation in the country.
The Group of Experts on Human Rights on Nicaragua was established in March 2022 by the United Nations with the purpose of investigating the abuses and violations of rights committed since April 2018 in the country and, if possible, to identify those responsible for future accountability.
The period to carry out the investigations is one year, which is very short, according to the Coalición Nicaragua Lucha.
The regime canceled another 25 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), including two from the United States, and most of them religious.

Among those dissolved are the Ministry of God the Joyful Giver Association (Medida), the Rey de Reyes Christian Mission Association (King of Kings), the Evangelistic Ministry Association “Christ is the Answer” and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Religious Association.
The Nicaraguan dictatorship has “decapitated” more than three thousand national and international associations that have been operating in the country since the repression of 2018.
