The panorama of the Connectivity in 2025 will be defined by an unprecedented technological evolution, that promises to change the way citizens live and work.

The importance of this aspect is reflected in data from the World Economic Forum, which reveals that nine out of ten organizations experienced at least one cyber attack in 2024.

As connectivity continues to gain prominence, so do the numbers associated with its use.

However, this transformation would not be possible without a robust cybersecurity infrastructure, according to expert Fernando Maturana, general manager of Gtd Colombia.

THE We Are Social report revealed that in 2024 the number of Internet users worldwide reached 5.35 billion, an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous year, with 97 million new users.

These data underline the increasing dependence of human activities on fast, reliable and secure connectivity. These are the five technological trends that experts highlighted for this year:

1. 5G: the foundation of a new era

The fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) is revolutionizing connectivity by offering download speeds greater than 10 Gbps and latency less than a millisecond. By 2025, its implementation is expected to reach an advanced level, enabling applications such as augmented and virtual reality, real-time telemedicine, and fully interconnected smart cities.

“With 5G, the ability to manage large volumes of data instantly will transform entire sectorsfrom manufacturing to entertainment,” Maturana explained.

2. Edge Computing: decentralized processing

He Edge computing is changing the way data is managed by bringing processing and storage closer to where it is generated. This technology is crucial for applications that require low latency, such as autonomous vehicles and smart industrial machinery.

By complementing 5G capabilities, edge computing improves operational efficiency and reduces costs by decentralizing data processing. “As more IoT devices enter the market, this technology will consolidate as an essential element in the connectivity ecosystem,” says Maturana.

3. IoT: an expanding network

He The Internet of Things (IoT) will continue to expand and by 2025, it is projected that more than 75 billion devices will be connected globally. From smart appliances to industrial sensors, IoT is transforming interaction with everyday objects and generating a significant amount of data that improves efficiency, safety and quality of life.

4. Cybersecurity

In a context of increasing digitalization, the Cybersecurity is essential. Gtd’s Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, known as Securesoft, leads efforts to protect sensitive data and ensure operational continuity. With a presence in five countries and a team of 390 specialists, it operates a network of five Security Operations Centers (SOC) that monitor and protect systems 24/7.

“We have international certifications such as ISO 27001 and PCI DSS, which reinforce our ability to manage risks,” Maturana stressed.

5. Hybrid and multicloud cloud computing: flexibility and scalability

Computing in Hybrid cloud and multicloud allows companies to take advantage of multiple public and private clouds. According to Mordor Intelligence, this market will reach $129.68 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $352.28 billion by 2029. This trend responds to the need to manage diverse workloads and ensure business continuity.

The future of connectivity is not without challenges. Infrastructure, security and regulations are critical areas that must be addressed to ensure the success of these innovations. “Connectivity is the driver of digital transformation, but it must be supported by comprehensive technological solutions and a solid commitment to information security,” the experts concluded.
