Santo Domingo.-The Juan Pablo Duarte Bridge It will be closed at 9:00 p.m. this Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday to correct faults in some expansion joints that were rebuilt at the end of last year and drivers will have the Juan Bosch bridges as alternate routes, Ramón Matías Mella, and the Floating.
Both the Juan Bosch and the Mella will work in both directions, as reported by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) in a statement.
The organization for the movement of traffic while the structure is closed will be in charge of the MOPC, the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) and the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett).

According to the sketch prepared for the alternate routes, the Juan Bosch bridge will have an express traffic lane, and will maintain traffic in the lane with a west-east flow.
Drivers traveling from the National District to the Santo Domingo Este municipality will be able to take Josefa Brea avenue to cross the Mella bridge, which will only have west-east circulation.
Also, take Avenida México to continue on the Mella Bridge or the Floating Bridge, in this case going down Avenida del Puerto, and from there cross to Villa Duarte.
Otherwise, drivers moving in an East-West direction, from Las Américas avenue, in Santo Domingo Este towards the National District, may continue through the Juan Bosch bridge.
The MOPC reported that it will proceed to the total closure of the Duarte bridge, starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday the 17th until 5:00 a.m. on Monday the 20th of the current year.
The closure of the structure during that time will be done to proceed to repair a second time the joints that have presented adherence problems, and it is at the request of the contractor company Proyectos Industriales, SA (PINSA), responsible for their repair.
Through a communication addressed to the MOPC, via the Vice Minister of Road Maintenance, Mélito Santana Rincón, the contracting firm requested the complete closure of the Duarte bridge during the time indicated above, and establishes that this “is a necessary condition to be able to guarantee the setting”.
Last year, new expansion joints were placed on the bridge, to correct the pronounced deterioration of the previous ones, which had not been removed for several years, which caused setbacks in vehicular traffic and deterioration of vehicles.
The Duarte bridge is a structure with 68 years of construction. It was put into service in 1955. The investment in the last works carried out was around 60 million pesos.
The MOPC apologized to the public, especially those who normally travel through that structure, for the inconveniences caused, but assured that the closure measure seeks to resolve the flaws detected.
