These are the 36 political prisoners who are still in the Sandinista dungeons

There are still 36 prisoners of conscience in the dungeons of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship after the release and exile to Guatemala on September 5 of a group of 135 political prisoners, according to the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners.

In a statement released on Saturday night, the Mechanism reported that it had confirmed the identity of 129 of the 135 people exiled, but “for security reasons” it will not make public the names of those released.

Following verification work carried out by the organisation, it was confirmed that 111 of the 135 people exiled were included in the official list of the Mechanism.

They also identified 18 deported people who were not on the list. “After validating each case, no information was obtained on four (4) people who were on the list, which makes it impossible to confirm whether they are still detained,” warns the independent organization.

He also explained that these four cases “will be added to an analysis process that will be carried out together with other cases known to have possible political ties.”
