The names of the 32 Cuban citizens who lost their lives during the US military attacks against Venezuelawhich occurred in the early morning of January 3, 2026, were officially announced this Tuesday.

According to information published by journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, Cubans carried out missions representing the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), at the request of counterpart institutions in Venezuela.

The 32 Cubans died after directly resisting the attackers or as a consequence of the bombing of the facilities where they were located, an attack that ended with the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

According to journalist Claudia Rafaela Ortiz, who lost one of her best friends in the North American intervention, the Cubans offered resistance to the US military for two hours until they ran out of ammunition.

National mourning and official reactions

He Cuban Government decreed two days of National Mourning, from 6:00 am on January 5 to 12:00 pm on January 6, 2026to pay tribute to the deceased combatants.

The official note published in the media indicates that the 32 Cubans died as a result of the “criminal attack perpetrated by the United States government against the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” and that their heroic action “raised the feeling of solidarity of millions of compatriots.”

The relatives of the victims were informed and received condolences and support from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and president of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as from the headquarters of the Minint and the FAR.

Cuba demands from the US the “immediate release” of Maduro
