The National Consumer Service (sernac) has issued a safety alert related to three Hyundai vehicle models that could present a risk to users. The affected models are the Venue QX, Elantra CN7 and Santa Fe TM, marketed between 2020 and 2022. According to Automotores Gildemeister SpA, who reported the situation to Sernac, these vehicles have a defect in the front seat belt pretensioners.
The detected problem refers to the possibility of the pretensioners bursting and projecting metal fragments into the passenger compartment of the car in the event of a crash activation. This situation represents a risk to the safety of users, since it could cause injuries. In total, it is estimated that there are 5,393 vehicles Hyundai affected by this alert, being 3,437 of the Venue model, 1,234 of the Santa Fe and 722 of the Elantra.
To remedy this failure, it has been determined that it is necessary to install two covers on each of the front seat belt pretensioners. This measure is intended to prevent the projection of splinters in the event of an activation of the seat belts due to a crash. So far, no accidents derived from this failure have been reported, both nationally and internationally, according to the sernac.
If you own one of the affected models, it’s important to check if your vehicle is within the recall. You can do this by consulting the chassis number, also known as VIN, on the page indicated by Sernac. In the event that your vehicle is affected, you must take it to an inspection to evaluate and install the necessary covers.
He sernac will be in charge of contacting affected customers through various means, such as WhatsApp, phone calls, text messages and certified letters. It is essential that owners pay attention to these notices and follow the instructions provided by Sernac and the manufacturer to solve this security flaw.
