Thermoelectric Guiteras will join the SEN on Wednesday if the weather “does not play against it”

Un fallo de la CTE Antonio Guiteras provocó la desconexión total del SEN este miércoles

SLP, Mexico.- The central thermoelectric Antonio Guiterasfrom Matanzas, one of the largest generation in the country, could join the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) this Wednesday, if the weather “does not play tricks,” according to the statements of Rubén Campos Olmo, technical director of the plant.

In an audio shared by the official journalist José Miguel Solís, the manager stated that the CTE could be synchronized during peak demand hours next Wednesday. “We have the people, we have the resources and we are working day and night. Hopefully time doesn’t play tricks on us,” he said.

In his argument he mentioned that there are jobs outdoors and it has rained in the province.

“Even though it rained at dawn, we are not changing anything. We should be there for the peak on Wednesday night,” said the engineer.

Campos informed Solís that they are carrying out about 400 actions at the thermoelectric plant, mainly in the boiler. Currently, they have completed cleaning the motherboard and repairing a leak in the rotor. The regenerative air heaters have also been washed.

“We must go up again to 260MW, somewhere around there,” the technician emphasized.

The Antonio Guiteras, with a power of about 270 megawatts, left the SEN this weekend due to a technological failure in the boiler.

The director of the National Load Dispatch of the Electrical Union, Félix Estrada Rodríguez, then specified that brigades from the National Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE) and the facility itself would undertake the repair of the unforeseen breakdown in the thermal machine.

Rubén Campos Olmo, for his part, said that with the “unforeseen departure” the boiler inspection work, cleaning the regenerative air heaters and other tasks would begin.

The Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba advertisement that the blackouts will simultaneously cover 49% of the national territory during peak hours this Tuesday. The figure is only a little lower than this Monday, when the impact reached 52% of the Island, the highest peak reported so far in 2025.

The UNE indicated that the interruptions of the service Electricity is due to breakdowns in the units of the operational terrestrial thermoelectric plants, as well as the shutdown of some for maintenance.

The state company specified that one of the units of the Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), unit 6 of the CTE Nuevitas, unit 3 of the CTE Renté and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are out of service due to breakdowns. . Likewise, several units of the CTE Santa Cruz, Guiteras, Cienfuegos and Renté are out of service for maintenance.

Specifically, for this Tuesday, a maximum electricity generation capacity of 1,530 MW and a demand of 2,285 MW is calculated, for a deficit of 970 MW.

However, the impact (what will actually be disconnected) will reach 1,600 MW during peak hours this Tuesday, the UNE specified.
