The Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon, announced this Monday that in April and June there will be two staggered increases in the bills of electricity users in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), which for most households will not exceed $ 400, at the same time that a new hearing will be held in the first days of October to evaluate the rates and investments of the companies.
“Almost 2.9 million users (low and medium level) will have an increase of less than $400 in two installments, in April and in June”, while “For high-income segments or those who do not request a subsidy, the increase will be in the order of $410 in two staggered increases.”said the official at a press conference.
In the conference, Royon reviewed the first two stages of the rate segmentation, corresponding to the period September-December 2022, which implied a withdrawal of 40% of the subsidies for non-registered and high income. He pointed out that the tax savings of that first stage, of 2022, was 40,000 million pesos.
According to information from the Ministry of Energy, in the second stage of the segmentation, 68% of residential users did not have a rate increase.

By 2023, the Secretariat indicated that the segmentation process will continue and progress will be made with the third stage in the reallocation of subsidies.
In 2023, for high-income sectors or those who do not request the subsidy, a 40% reduction will be made, while for the middle sectors, this reduction will be 20% of the subsidy.
In the case of the AMBA electricity companies, they requested a 260% increase, but it was decided to implement a staggered increase in two equal installments, the first from April 1 and the second from June 1.
For low-income residents, the rate increase will not exceed $360 pesos per installment.
72% of the users, almost 2.9 million, of the medium and low levels (N2 and N3) will receive a fee increase of up to $400 pesos per month with respect to the VAD (Value Added Distribution).
At the conference, the ENRE controller, Water Martello, said that the objective is “to protect the most vulnerable households and those with medium income” and that “the companies are not going to obtain the increase that the companies want, but the one that the families can pay.
He said that “a public hearing will be called for the first days of October, not only to discuss rates but also to evaluate investments” by the companies.
