If the revocation of the mandate is carried out on the same day as the federal elections, he added, additional costs can be avoided, as occurred in 2022 with the revocation of the mandate of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador:
In 2027, the Chamber of Deputies, 17 governorships, more than 2,000 municipal presidencies will be renewed and judges and magistrates of the Judicial Branch will be elected.
According to Ramírez Cuéllar, the reform – which will be discussed in the Constitutional Points Commission of San Lázaro – seeks to modify article 35 of the Constitution and align the revocation with the federal elections.
“The population has enough clarity to separate what the local elections, the federal election and the mandate revocation consultation are. There is no reason for confusion to be generated,” said the Morena vice coordinator.
Ramírez Cuellar’s initiative seeks:
–Greater participation. The 2021 popular consultation involved 57,077 polling stations and 7.10% of the Nominal List of Voters participated. The revocation of the 2022 mandate was with 57,448 boxes and 17.77% of the List participated.
–Facilitate the tasks and activities of the National Electoral Institute (INE), since instead of two or more calendars there will only be one.
–Reduce “significantly” organizational costs. The 2021 consultation was 528 million pesos; the revocation of April 10, 2022 of 1,567 million pesos.
