Although the international acquisition of urea for the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign has not yet been finalized, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Andrés Alencastre, assured that “there will be no food crisis or shortages in the markets”.
In this sense, the member of the ministerial cabinet ratified that in the next few days the delivery of the Fertiabono will be launched to facilitate the purchase of synthetic fertilizers for producers of up to 10 hectares, which will allow them to meet the requirements of the agricultural campaign.
”There will be no food crisis, there will be no shortage, there were no conditions with the presence of the pandemic (COVID-19) and there was never a shortage of products. Our agricultural producers put all the mechanisms in place so as not to deplete the markets or the popular tablesAlencaster said.
Fertiabonus
Furthermore, the owner of the Midagri pointed out the commitment of the sector in adopting measures to guarantee the fertilization of crops and, for this, he announced that the implementation of the Fertiabonus It will benefit 370,000 small producers throughout the country.
The beneficiaries are farmers who are in the register of agricultural producers (PPA), who, to date, exceed 601,000 registered farmers, and who manage up to 10 hectares. The measure will address 40 strategic products established by the Midagri.
Payment will be through the offices of the National bank in intangible accounts, using payment carts and other modalities.
He specified that, with the allocation of the subsidy, it will be possible to reach a greater number of producers, and also “urea exists in stocks in commercial houses in the country and, therefore, we are activating (this monetary support) to attend to the emergency in the field”.
He indicated that the peak of the fertilization needs of the 2022-2023 campaign crops takes place between September and November, and “we are reaching out with attention to the small producers who will receive the Fertiabonus”.
“This situation (the drop in international purchases) is used as an excuse to incorporate other interests, because the field is going to be fertilized and the farmers will receive the bags of NPK, which were not previously considered. In my capacity as minister, despicable arguments have been used for another objective, which is to hit the presidential image politically and personally.”, stressed Alencastre.
company letter
Regarding the process of international purchase of urea, the minister reiterated that it was carried out in a transparent manner and without evidence of irregularities.
In addition, he released a letter sent by the Italian company Unionsped through which he states that “Due to the 46% shortage of urea fertilizer globally, it has not been possible to accept the tender for the delivery of the aforementioned product, since our supplier has not reached today’s date to give us complete and absolute confirmation that he could make the delivery within the indicated deadlines”.
He pointed out that the same company indicated that it was never the intention “harm any Peruvian and much less affect the agricultural sector”.
”Everything we have done is respecting all forms and customs of international purchase transactions, and it was not possible to be fulfilled by the resignation of the company. Within the practices of international purchasing trade, this is a very rare exception, which has never happened or very rarely happened and it happened to us”, expressed the minister.
