“There is no justification” for the delay in water supply in Havana, says Díaz-Canel

“There is no justification” for the delay in water supply in Havana, says Díaz-Canel

Díaz-Canel described as “inadmissible” that some municipalities of Havana exceed 10 days without water supply, a crisis that the Government is trying to alleviate after complaints and recent popular protests.

In the weekly meeting to follow up on the Government’s “offensive” in the face of problems accumulated over the years and now exacerbated – the fifth since October 3 -, the president this Saturday demanded explanations for the long periods without water service in Regla and Guanabacoa, and held his first secretaries and mayors responsible. points out the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

“It has no justification, after the priority and support that is being provided to Havana,” said Díaz-Canel, who also inquired about the control of tankers to prioritize critical areas and optimize the assigned fuel.

The discussion takes place just hours after residents of Regla interrupted traffic on one of the central streets of the municipality, after days without receiving water in their homes.

However, the governor in Havana, Yanet Hernández Pérez, assured that the service in the city has been improving, when this week some 32,484 people joined the beneficiaries.

While… garbage and the epidemiological crisis grow

Since the sanitation work began, nearly 268 thousand cubic meters of solid waste have been collected in Havana.

On average, about 19 thousand cubic meters are counted daily, the report from the ACN. However, Díaz-Canel calls for “greater control” and efficiency in municipalities with delays such as Marianao, Habana del Este and Centro Habana to overcome the garbage crisis.

He insisted on details such as cleaning not only containers, but also their surroundings, as well as repairing sidewalks damaged by inadequate equipment and systematizing the work on main avenues so that “the city wakes up with a better image.”

Public Health recognizes three deaths from dengue in 2025, an active disease in 12 provinces

At the same time, the authorities undertook sanitation and fumigation actions, regarding the serious epidemiological situation that the country faces.

So far this year, three people have died in Cuba from complications of dengue, a disease that is currently actively circulating in 12 provinces along with Chikungunya in eight territories, as announced by the Cuban Vice Minister of Public Health, Carilda Peña, on October 15.

In statements to state television, Peña assured that these viruses represent a “national” problem because the mosquito infestation rates are “very high” and the situation due to the lack of fuel in the country is “very complex” to be able to carry out the necessary fumigations.

According to the official, dengue affects 36 municipalities and 44 health areas, with peaks in May-June and September-October due to rain, high temperatures and humidity that drive the proliferation of the vector.
