the minister of Agricultural Development and IrrigationJenny Patricia Ocampo, assured that there are 171,000 tons of urea in warehouses based on the five companies that continued to import, to supply the national market in the next three months.
“There is fertilizer in Peru. We have met a multisectoral group and the National Society of Industries (SNI) reports that there is regular supply for the next three months, the problem is that it is expensive due to the war between Ukraine and Russia”, he maintained on Channel N.
He added that the war situation between Russia and Ukraine is getting worse and that could once again influence the price.
Fertiabonus
Ocampo indicated that his sector is adopting several strategies in the face of the international situation, so that since Friday, September 30, they have already been granting the Fertiabono to small producers.
“In this first section, those who have up to one hectare of agricultural extension are being canceled, because they are the ones who grow potatoes, which is currently having a high cost.”, he stated.
Along these lines, the official also pointed out that there is a medium-term project to install a urea production plant in the Ica region. “That is something that is being worked on with the Ministry of Production”, he narrowed down.
Urea bidding process
The minister explained that, after three failed attempts, a new bidding process for urea will be called and it would be this month.
“We are making strenuous efforts to purchase urea so that it no longer fails, but also understanding that this will offset the cost of production to a certain extent. But they are not the only strategies“, said.
The executive explained that this process will be transparent and will be carried out successfully, since they would have evaluated the failures of the previous calls to avoid repeating the mistakes.
