There is a deficit of more than 2,700 data science professionals

The estimated gap in data science professionals in Peru for 2025 exceeded 2,700 people, according to the Data Science Adoption and Data Talent Gap Study 2025. The research was presented by BREIT, Aporta’s initiative for the training of data science professionals, the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC), the BCP and Apoyo Analytics.

The report reveals a scenario of high demand and low supply of talent specialized in analytics, artificial intelligence and data management, which poses an urgent challenge for the country’s productive and technological development.

This lack threatens to slow down the adoption of digital technologies in the main economic sectors and limit national competitiveness against countries that are advancing more quickly in the integration of artificial intelligence and automation.

High turnover and deficit

The study shows that the most difficult technical roles to fill are those of AI Engineer, MLOps Engineer and Data Architect, profiles with high demand and limited availability in the local market. Among the factors that complicate hiring are the high salary requirements, the shortage of qualified offer and the difficulties in passing technical tests.

Likewise, job rotation in data areas reaches high levels, especially among young professionals. The companies that best retain talent are those that offer work flexibility, challenging projects and professional development opportunities.

Rising salaries

Another result of the research was that data professionals enjoy constantly rising salaries, a reflection of the strategic value that analytics has acquired in business and a greater appreciation of specialized talent.

However, the study points out training gaps: specialists must strengthen both their technical skills – Python, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence – and their soft skills, including effective communication, leadership and business understanding.

In addition, he specified that training institutions are still unable to respond to the growing demand. Graduates from careers linked to data science represent just 4% of the national total, with UTEC, UNI and PUCP among the most valued.

BREIT’s role

Against this backdrop, BREIT reaffirms its commitment to training the data science talent that the country needs. Its model combines international technical training, in alliance with MIT, with the development of soft skills and applied projects in social impact organizations. In addition, it promotes the inclusion of non-technical profiles, democratizing access to learning in data and artificial intelligence.

“Peru cannot move towards an economy based on innovation without data talent. At BREIT we are training the professionals who will make this change possible,” said Lucía Haro, manager of BREIT.
