The regional fault which caused the earthquake of 5.3 degrees that astonished the entire population this Wednesday, Osiris de León explained that it is the same fault on January 12, 2010 that induced the 7.0 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; on January 6, 2020, the 6.4 earthquake in Puerto Rico, and on August 14, 2021, the 7.2 earthquake in Les Cayes, also in Haiti

According to the explanation of the National Seismology Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, the earthquake only lasted about 30 seconds.

The earthquake expert, Andrés Moreta, revealed that these cases are normal because “there is a geological fault system on the island”, so in similar situations, it is best to remain calm.
